Herring Gulls at the De La Warr Pavilion

The De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill On Sea needed a top-up of Town & Country Garden and Coast & Clifftop logbooks, so I decided to take a trip out there rather than posting them as I love the Pavilion and don’t need much of an excuse to go, plus I had some logbooks to drop off at in Battle en route.

It was a very windy day but the sea looked beautiful, and I sat in the cafe watching the gulls wheeling around above the waves and then went for a wander along the seafront on my way back the car.

The Herring Gulls were remarkably cooperating, leaning in to the wind and blinking before taking off in their rather lugubrious manner.

I did some sketches in my Hahnemühle Grey Book when I got home which is always fun as I can use my white pencil. They are quite difficult to draw while flying ‘live’ but it was useful to get some quick outlines to work from.
