Sketchbook pages

A few photos of my latest sketchbook pages:

These pears are from The New Oxford Book of Food Plants and I really wanted to have a go at something more painterly, having recently watched a few YouTube videos on gouache. I am totally self-taught with gouache and although I think I have a pretty good grasp of how to handle it, I wanted to try some of the techniques. I tried a similar ‘experiment’ with a view from the top of Mount Caburn after a walk with Ned at the weekend:

I used some dry brush and blending, which I normally avoid, but it was good to try something new.

My houseplant has been continuing to provide inspiration. my Fabriano sketchbooks takes the colour so well – I am really enjoying it.
