Part of my practise as an artist is field sketching. It is something I have only recently rediscovered since drawing the illustrations for the birdwatching logbooks. Prior to this, my paintings were slightly abstracted and simplified, and deliberately flattened to match the matte gouache paint. Consequently, I have revisited my field sketching, as it is a great way to ensure that drawings and paintings have the correct feel and sense of movement, even if reference photos are used for the final illustration.
I am running a few workshops this year, in conjunction with South Downs Wildlife at Langney Marsh, and Sussex Wildlife Trust at Rye Harbour Nature Reserve on 21st June 2022. They are suitable for all levels, and materials are provided.
