
Blinktober
A short post for today’s prompt, CACTUS, as I have rather run out of time. A couple of years ago I made a birdwatching logbook for a project in New Mexico, and I loved researching the different habitats, including the magnificent saguaro cacti. I saw a charming picture of a nest of Horned Owls in one of these long-lived statuesque plants and wanted to draw it in my sketchbook:

I found a similar photo of these opportunistic owls using the bowl of the cactus to create the perfect receptacle for the nestlings, so chose this as my resource. I should have known I would get bored of drawing the actual structure and chosen a larger owl/smaller plant picture but never mind. So, here is my Cactus Inktober offering, and I used my Pilot parallel pen:
