Life has been Life-ing as they say
I am really enjoying graphic recording but I’m aware it’s not terribly aesthetic, and I don’t feel particularly inclined to write about it as a lot of the webinars are a bit abstruse and not necessarily for general consumption. Anyway, here is my latest one:
I’ve got a number of other projects coming up or in the process of being discussed, and but I have been woefully neglectful of my sketchbook, as all I want to draw are motifs. When I was painting birds I found it great to experiment and get other creative stuff out of my head and onto paper, but graphic recording uses a lot of my brain, and I feel a bit spent after doing it. On a more mundane level, an old rotator cuff injury has bubbled up since training our enthusiastic Labrador youngster, and my shoulder is quite tender so I’m walking the dogs individually; not a great hardship but takes up quite a bit of time.
The things I’ve got brewing are all pretty varied. This weekend I have been booked to live illustrate at Riverlution Thriving Ouse Festival which I thought was going to be sketching migratory species but when I read the blurb I’m apparently creating a hand-painted mural. OkMy son ……
It’s Climate Week in NYC this week and I have a few webinars booked, and my friend has given me links to his firm’s sessions so I am hopefully going to make some maps which will be super fun, covering such weighty topics as Global Supply Chain Issues and the like.
In November I am graphic recording for an event all about compost where I thought I would need to travel to the Cotswolds, but in fact I’ll be working from a film which makes things a little easier, if less exciting.
My son has been exploring some of the dysfunction around the relationship with his father, and wrote a brilliant short piece of writing which I said would make a great article, and Tristan then suggested we made it into a graphic novel. Not quite my skill set but I’ll give it a go.
I was volunteering at Charleston on Saturday, and between visitors I made a little sketch in my tiny Royal Talens with my Wren Pen, and since showing my daughters, they now both want their own version.
It’s my older daughter’s birthday at the start of next month and pumpkin season will soon be over so I need to get a move on.
In amongst all this I am keeping up with my birdwatching logbook sales and admin and coming up with seasonal ideas for marketing. My daughter is helping me with my social media output so that’s really sweet of her but she starts her new job soon so I am making the most of her while I can! I’m debating whether to do one of the October creative challenges but that might be a bit much given the other stuff I have cooking, but I do enjoy the discipline even if I end up skipping some days.
