More How-to Guides for Drawing Birds

I now have five guides uploaded so have a go, and see what you think! I have gone with some basic shapes that represent quite a few birds so will give you the body patterns to make drawings of a variety of species. Look at the shapes and sizes of the initial ovals and triangles; where the eye and beak are placed; how long are the legs? and go from there.

I run regular workshops, and also can provide one-to-one sketching advice on birds. Here are some sketches done by my mum, following the guide:

  1. I enjoyed ‘having a go’ at following the Guides: something I’ve never tried before. They offer enough of a challenge to be interesting and engaging, but not in any way daunting. Repeating the drawings means you can learn from the previous attempts and gain fluency. The Guides are a great idea, fun, and will hopefully enable us all to become more proficient at drawing the birds we see. Thank you.

      1. Ah yes – your book is a lovely – and inspired – idea. I always have trouble commenting on Blogger (bizarrely, as I have a blog of my own on there from way back) but if you decide to develop a sketchbook you can see what you think 🙂
