From Artist’s Block to Inspired Spaces: my decor journey

…if that’s not a contradiction.

I have a small, perfectly-formed space where I live with my cat and dog, and having been in rented accommodation for years, the delight of being able to paint my room whatever colour I want and *gasp* use Blu Tack and **eeek** nails to display my postcards and artwork is palpable. Having painted my en-suite a deep inky blue (Thai Sapphire), followed by a giraffe on the door, then my studio area a bright hot pink (Mischief), I wanted another colour for the lounge area in my little loft room. As I mentioned in a previous post, I wanted a complimentary colour to tie in, and chose Mambo from Little Greene, which my parents kindly bought me for Christmas.

It was also a good time to have a sort out and switcheroo with my books, magazines, storage and general layout, and I love the cosiness the new paint brings. It feels like a classy and exclusive lounge which is exactly the vibe I was going for. I need to get my sofa reupholstered but that’s a job for later in the spring. I also want to get some wallpaper (hoping my friend has some left over) so I can redo the top of my desk, as the leather has long since perished.

I’m enjoying the last few days of mooching about, although I did have a flurry of activity on Monday and Tuesday, meaning I contacted all my stockists about the logbook price increase, and noted down all the potential new retailers I need to email, so I’ll be able to start on Monday with a little bit on momentum. I haven’t done any drawing recently, so that’s something I need to tackle as artist’s block feels like it’s creeping in and I need to head it off, pronto. I’ve been drawing horses and bizarrely, I get so scared about getting them wrong it makes me nervous – the worst thing to happen when picking up a pencil. I like drawing heavy horses as their feathery legs make them easier for some reason, possibly because that whole hoof/fetlock area is basically just a triangle, but I saw a Fjord horse on a tv programme, and they used to be my favourite breed when I was a pony-mad youngster so I wanted to try drawing them, but it seems to have made me nervous.

Maybe I’ll try drawing some shires to get my confidence back. I really need to crack on with the Ecuador birds…are you getting bored of me saying that?! I am!
