a new toy

for my logbooks

I have recently been investigating making my books more visible to wholesalers and buying managers, rather than just using social media and contacting retailers direct. It’s such a learning curve, and every so often I come across a whole new sector that I simply didn’t know existed. This time it was about the wholesale gift market, and what to pitch for regarding trends and purchasing patterns.

With this in mind, I contacted a few magazines aimed at the wholesale market, and of course, visuals are key. I have been wondering for a while about getting some better photos of my logbooks but not sure how to go about that, and I thought I’d start with a light box so at least I can get some images which don’t look bleached or shadowy, or have my messy rubbish in the background. Using a phone is awful for “proper” photography anyway, but it’s all I have (or know how to use) so I need to adapt my environment, hence the light box.

It’s really good, and I’ve managed to get some much better photos.

Of course, there’s a time and place for natural, in situ pictures, but when I need to represent my wares in their best light (literally) I think this will work well.

As you can see, I also have some new stands! They fold flat and are cardboard, and I think will work well for my needs. I have customised them with my branding to encourage people to buy more once they’ve run out rather than using the stand for something else! I now need to photograph all my titles so I can replace the ones currently on my website. I still have a mix of old and new stock which is annoying, and the purest in me wants to pension off the old ones but I can’t really justify that on financial or sustainable grounds to I’m wrestling with myself a bit over that.

What are the trends for Winter and Christmas 2025 I hear you cry?
