too hot to paint

until now

Ugh, I am not a fan of hot weather, and much as I like the sunshine and flowers and insects, I’m not a summer person. Thanks goodness for the respite of the garden. The scorchio temperatures have moved on for the time being so I can get back to painting. Gouache dries quickly at the best of times but it’s been seizing up on my brush between palette and paper until today. I am wanting to do some illustrations for my South Coast Set so that they don’t double up, so I need Tufted Ducks, a few Curlews, Little Egrets and various others.

Here are my latest additions. The ducks will need blue backgrounds so I have had to make their beaks a bit darker so it shows up, likewise their eyes are rather large; once reduced to logbook size, these details matter!

Tufted Duck and Feral Pigeon illustrations for the birdwatching logbooks.

  1. I feel your ‘pain’. I have the same problem with my watercolours and inks drying too fast. Very annoying. But today so much better, phew!
