woodland birdwatching

As some of you may know, I homeschooled my children, and more recently I was leading an art class for home-ed kids at a local community woodland. While I’m not heading back to regular teaching anytime soon, I have done a few bespoke nature art workshops for people staying in the cabins at Wilderness Wood, and this Mayday weekend I am hosting a “Draw Woodland Birds” drop-in session to coincide with the relaunch of the Birds of Wilderness Wood birdwatching logbook.

With this in mind, I worked out some birds for which I could make some step-by-step drawings as I did for the Urban Village Fete at Greenwich Peninsula as I think it’s really important that people have a go. It’s such a great way to get engagement, and hopefully we’ll sell lots of logbooks!

I have chosen Wood Pigeon, Coal Tit, Robin, Blackbird and Tawny Owl as my subjects.

I now need to work out how best to present the drawings. For the Urban Fete I did them on A3 pages and stuck them up in the marquee but I might do A4 ones so I can print them off. It would be much simpler if I had an iPad and pen as I could save the outlines as I do them but ho hum, I’ll have to do it the old-fashioned way.
