a new sketchbook tour

BLOGANUARY 2025 DAY 12

I finally got round to filming the second half of my Leuchtturm sketchbook – my dear blog followers will have seen most of the sketches already but sometimes it’s nice to see them altogether.

I filmed it at my best friend’s house and I forgot about the slightly embarrassing reflection in the black worktop (it’s not “black granite” even though it’s called that, as technically granite is either white or red, with grey or black speckles, so it’s more likely to be a gabbro worktop; can you see why I don’t get asked to dinner parties) but I’m pleased to get it done so the sketchbook can join its friends on my bookcase.

I’ve not used my next Leuchtturm yet as I seem to have started my Fabriano Venezia so I might stick with that for a bit, otherwise I end up in two-sketchbook world which seems innocent enough but I then get paralysed with indecision as to which one I should use so I learnt a long time ago that it’s best to work through one and not get caught up in themes or media. I now tend to buy sketchbooks which do both wet and dry, and although the Leuchtturm is better for pen and pencil, and the Venezia better for paint, I like drawing on the thicker 200gsm of the Fabriano, and I like the quirky response to wet media that I get when painting on the 140gsm of the Leuchtturm, so both work for me.

Enjoy your Sunday everyone!
