taking things slowly

I received a lovely Venezia sketchbook for Christmas, and it’s got 200gsm paper so I like to use it for gouache. My Leuchtturm sketchbook does take water-based media but the paper isn’t so robust at 140gsm, hence it does pucker a bit with any sort of wash. My previous Venezia was the largest at about A4 size, but this one is the medium, so I can use a whole page easily.

I watched my favourite film yesterday, Evil Under the Sun, and like last year, took some screenshots as I love the vibe and the 1980s cinematography.

I’m gently getting back to work, and enjoying some gentle pottering around and arranging my thoughts. I started a painting from one of the screenshots and found myself itching to finish it, and then realising I could take my time and enjoy the process. So, here is my painting so far:
