Peregrine falcon…again

This is my fourth oil, and probably my favourite. As I said in my previous post, I have a real soft spot for these falcons and I saw a fantastic picture of a peregrine on Instagram standing on a bleached log. I really wanted to try something that was less green and wooded, and these greyish blues are some of my favourite colours. I love the washed-out pale background and think it works really well with the colour of the bird.

I apply the paint thickly as I love the textural quality and painterly aspect. They are so different to the gouache paintings but I like to retain the bird as the central focus and not emphasise the background, or rather the background is simply a foil for the main character.
