ready for Redwings

The Cuckoo Trail shrubs and trees are still laden with berries, in spite of the wind and rain, and the visiting Redwings are chatting and chirruping among the branches as they seek out the haws, hips, sloes and ivy berries. They are very skittish, and readily fly off to another stand of trees but happily, often turn their heads before taking to the air showing their buff eyebrow and flecked cheeks. In spite of the name, the rusty-red flanks are less easy to spot on a grey winter’s day than their contrasty facial markings.

I added a Redwing to the species featured in my newly-updated Forest & Farmland Birds birdwatching logbook, swapping out the Cirl Bunting which is an incredibly rare and localised species, only really found in a few spots in the West Country. There are a few new illustrations too, but I’m still working through some of my previous stock, meaning these new ones are not yet available for my Stockists but if you order direct from me on this page, you’ll get a brand new one, hot off the press!

These little pocketbooks are perfect for taking on a Boxing Day country walk with family and friends.
