poster possibilites

How my mind works…

I do love a poster. I’m working out a way to create bespoke posters for projects which don’t warrant – or have the budget for – a logbook as I think my style would work well. I’m also putting together some ideas for an art project through a European initiative about rewilding, and there’s the possibility that I might be doing a pro-bono bird poster for a non-profit based in Ecuador, but I’m waiting to hear about that.

I have done postcards based on the logbooks before, so I think they will translate well into poster format, and if I offer a weatherproof large-scale (A2 or A1) format I think they would work well for hubs, visitor centres and the like.

I need to work out how best to make the poster background: should I make it life-size and then scan it in portions? Or do I try a detailed background which will enlarge effectively? I normally reduce my illustrations – which is very forgiving! – and I only have access to an A4 scanner, so that will need some exploration.

I love making the bespoke logbooks, but they do require 1) a retail outlet with a high footfall and 2) an established, publicly-accessible nature reserve, national park or similar; basically a nexus around which to focus the content.

Not many places in the UK have such a combination, but a poster to highlight the birdlife to be seen on a particular project might be a worthwhile alternative. Watch this space…
