and that’s a wrap

for the A.T. artwork

Hurrah, I have painted all 28 of the birds needed for the Birds of the Appalachian Trail birdwatching logbook. I may redo one or two, and I need to get confirmation from the ATC that they’re happy with how they all look, but it’s great to get them done. I also need to shift a few of them around in the centre page spread, but here they all are for now:

There are 6 more on the back page which come under the category of “Other birds you may see”, hence the 28 illustrations necessary. I have also done the info for over half of the birds and have made notes on another 6, so I only have 4 more to do, and then the bulk of the work will be finished. It’s been great fun but a lot of work, and I’m hoping to squeeze in a bit of my own art next week as an apology to my poor residency, which has somewhat fallen by the wayside!

I did give myself the evening off today, and while I was on Discord with my children (they game and I watch, providing encouragement or refereeing as necessary) I used some photo references to make some pictures of my daughter’s dachshund, Wilbur, using oil pastels on my A1 paper.

It was great fun and I’m really pleased with how they turned out. I think I captured his expression of always being slightly disappointed or despondent quite well…he’s an absolute master at a side-eye.
