Cannon Street

Brr it was a chilly day for sitting outside sketching! Fortified with a wonderful plant-based full English at Mallow just by Borough Market, I headed over London Bridge to meet my friend Suzy who was coming up from Kent for this February meeting of the London urban sketching group. There were at least 70 USkers outside the underground which was a pleasant surprise.
Suzy and I headed to St Paul’s but it had started spitting with rain, so we found an information hub with a bench and an overhang where we could perch and draw. It wasn’t a very interesting view but we managed to get something in our sketchbooks.

Halfway through, we met back at Cannon Street to have our midpoint sketchbook throwdown. There were so many people I couldn’t get a photo of everyone’s work, and for the second part of the session most of us decided to find a coffee shop or other cosy venue with a view.
We found a Black Sheep that had some seats facing out, so drew the buildings in front of us. I used my Pilot Parallel pen for this one.

At 3.30 we regrouped at the station for a final throwdown and chatted with the other sketchers, before dispersing back to our respective stations and heading home to warm up.

Very brave of you to sit out in the cold and sketch! I’m writing this comment wearing a hat and scarf indoors…

Ha! Yes I’m looking forward to the weather being a little more spring-ish that’s for sure!
