a friend for the domino damsel

Kindness is key

I try to use up the old paint on my palette, which inevitably leads to some sort of muddy and incoherent artwork, and I try not to let this bother me but I ended up creating a page of random and rather unattractive shapes right next to my domino damsel fish. I defiantly don’t want to feel that my sketchbook is a precious thing where every thing has to be “right” but then again, I want to look back and be pleased with what I have achieved with my sketchbooks, and somehow it didn’t feel right to slap some paint on the page next to the little fish.

I have since watched a lot more Mossy Earth videos, and have also become a member as I would like to support them in their work, and with so many things being done to negatively impact our wildlife, a group of young and research-oriented enthusiasts seems to be a good place to offset some of my anxiety.

So, to remedy the sketchbook situation, I took some offcuts of my new Bockingford paper – I really like it by the way – and stuck them over the facing page with double-sided tape. Then to organise a friend for the domino…

Finding Nemo

After a brief bit of research, I discovered there there’s an anemone clownfish which appears to be associated with the same part of Indonesian reefs as the domino damsel, and as I had orange on my palette from painting the Kingfishers, decided to paint one to join him on the coral reef, with his anemone:
