BLOGANUARY 2025 DAY 23

Just a short post today, as I have a bad cold: my eyes are squinty, head is thudding, and my nose is streaming. On that cheery note, shall we continue?

I have spent 3 years building my business with the birdwatching logbooks, and I have learnt so much about myself, my booklets, and the market. Don’t worry – I’m absolutely carrying on with growing the number of stockists, and working on my own marketing strategy, including relaunching the logbooks later in the spring.

I have to be honest though about the potential financial outcome, and how much I want to just do this for the foreseeable. I have been looking for something that I can do alongside the logbooks, and which also aligns with my values. 100% remote is necessary as I have animals to care for, and at my age and stage, having always been self-employed, my options are limited for regular work. I’m pleased to say that I’m going to be working on promoting an initiative called Marketing by Nature with the company Ethical Brand Marketing, all about helping eco-creatives to create solid and sustainable businesses.

(Sidebar: I’m moving away from Instagram and Facebook and entering the world of LinkedIn. Yes, I know it’s probably a frying pan-fire situation, but hey, I hope I can do some good over there. Come and say hello if you’re on there too.)

So I have been busy getting myself oriented with the idea of applying myself to something outside my personal responsibility, and acquainting myself with all the materials I’ll need, cold allowing. I’m now watching Winterwatch and chilling out a bit before having an early night. I’ll leave you with one of my Eider illustrations, having just watched them on tv – one of my favourite ducks:

Painting of an Eider drake on an easel, with binoculars and a lump of quartz.
