It’s another late one. I teach an art class on Tuesday afternoons, and I am currently in the throes of investigating literary agents, and preparing my proposal is like getting my book ready for an interview. Naturally, nothing that I’m trying to pitch is straightforward so I’m trying to work out how best to tick the boxes required by the agencies…square peg, round hole springs to mind.
This evening I have been dog-sitting for my best friend, and was booked on a livestream with Wild Life Drawing and the Jaguar Rescue Center over in Costa Rica. I spent an hour or so drawing tropical deer which was a nice relaxing activity after my concentration and focus during the day. I only had my basic art toolkit with me so drew them in my Pilot calligraphy pen which has blue ink.

They are a very odd shape, and move around a lot. Not necessarily running around, but the head constantly moves so it was quite hard work keeping track. There are always reference images sent with our Zoomlink email but I always like to try and draw the livestreams live, as there are plenty of opportunities to draw from images, and I found the shape of their ears really fascinating.
One of the many advantages of Lockdown: Zoom! As usual, it’s rather harrowing to hear the rescue stories of a lot of the animals in the Center’s care, but contributing to their upkeep while filling my sketchbook is a wonderful way to support them.
