I love Agatha Christie, and over Christmas the Beeb usually shows my faves: Murder on the Orient Express, Death on the Nile, and Evil Under the Sun. Peter Ustinov is my favourite Poirot, and the 1982 production of Evil Under the Sun is priceless. I took some screenshots of particularly cinematic viewpoints, and wanted to recreate them in my Leuchtturm sketchbook in gouache.
I had so much fun. I’m not sure why I’m suddenly so fascinated by people and their outfits…perhaps it’s the human equivalent of plumage that intrigues me after so many years of painting birds.
I drew 6 rough rectangles to make the screens, and drew in a few guidelines in 2H pencil. I then just went to town really and had a marvellous time, which I think shows. I am really enjoying experimenting and properly using my sketchbook to explore techniques and topics that I haven’t tried before.
