I am starting voluntary work at Charleston Farmhouse in the coming weeks, partly for some much-needed structure, and partly to meet some new people. Today I went for a wander round and a chat with the Duty Manager; I’ve not been to Charleston for years and that was only for homeschooling visits, so it was rather wonderful to have the chance to walk through and soak up the atmosphere of this iconic sink of literary, artistic and social exploration at the foot of the Downs.
What struck me was the amazing light in the house. We are back to Summer with a vengeance here in Sussex at the moment so the cool interior was very welcome.
Here are some of my photos. It’s quite an extraordinary place, and beautifully curated. The garden is lovely but I’m fortunate to know some fabulous gardens, and in the heat I didn’t linger.
