Still on a black and white theme. This partly because with gouache it’s important to mix enough of the colour you are going to need before you start to paint as it’s difficult to get an exact match, so you need to make extra. It’s hot here again in Sussex, and black squeezes straight from the tube so no mixing required. I also find the earth pigments such as ochre and umber are more tricky to use when it’s warm as they tend to dry unevenly. I love painting black on to white paper anyway so it’s no hardship.



I am really pleased with the Ring Ouzel as the bib makes use of the white paper surrounded by black, and I like it when I can use that in an illustration.
I have a Buzzard and a Curlew to do at some point but I might have to wait for cooler weather!
