I ran a workshop at the Greenwich Peninsula Urban Village Fete a few weeks ago, and hastily put together some drawing guides for people that might be a bit fazed at the idea, and they seemed to go down well. I feel slightly conflicted as the whole point of drawing is to develop your own style, but getting started is the main thing, and if this encourages folk to have a go, well, that’s good enough for me.
I’ve now arranged each of the A2 scrappy drawings on to an A4 downloadable sheet, and I gave them to my family and friends to have a go; I wanted to make sure they did actually work! I have been really impressed and if you like following instructions then they might just help you start to see the shapes of birds, and then feel confident enough to draw them without the use of a guide like this.
Here are the pictures from my family:

What do you think? Do you like to follow a guide with your drawing?
Here are the Pied Wagtail and Canada Goose, if you want to download them and have a go. Please let me know if you try them by either tagging me on Instagram (@jennifermooreartist) or contacting me here on the website. You can also email me at jennifermooreartist@gmail.com
