Birds of Wilderness Wood

My logbooks are on sale at a fabulous working woodland in Hadlow Down near me, and I was chatting to one of the owners about the possibility of making a Birds of Wilderness Wood logbook to raise money, as they have 60 acres of stunning coppice, Christmas trees, and woodland to walk through and enjoy – as well as camp! I know Wilderness Wood as we used to visit regularly as a family when we home-educated, and there is still a strong homeschool presence with various groups and Forest School for learning, socialising and community for home-ed families.

“Wouldn’t it be great to involve the children in creating the book?” So, that is what we are doing. Last week we took a walk around the woodland, looking and listening for birds. We came across a chiffchaff, magpies, woodpeckers, a crow, blackbirds and tits to put on our Master List. This week we had an art session, and I brought along paints, pencils, graphite sticks and plenty of paper so the children could make their own versions of the birds for a poster.

I love doing art with children as they are so free and expressive.

If you’re interested in having my logbooks for your Forest School or home ed group, do please get in touch as I offer discounts on orders of 10 or more books.
