I saw a nice little poster recently in a pack from Friends of the Earth about bee-friendly activities. I am a beekeeper myself and love all sorts of insects so decided to paint some of the bees I see during the summer here in the Sussex countryside.
The first is a Red-tailed bumblebee, Bombus lapidarius:
Next, I painted a Tree bumblebee, Bombus hypnorum:
And finally, an Ivy bee, Colletes hederae:
I will be painting a Common wasp, and a European hornet next, as I am putting together a poster of British Bees and Wasps, as well as another poster of British Birds, though choosing my favourites to go on that is going to be difficult…
Once these are scanned in, they will be available to buy at £40, or £50 framed, plus p&p.
